Roxanne Payne
Person Centred Counsellor (MBACP)
I am a person-centred counsellor with experience working with people from a diverse range of backgrounds. I work in a gentle, empathic way, offering a safe, confidential environment, where you can leave the world and its judgements at the door and just be you. I work with adults (18+), and I am a registered member of the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy)
I’ve worked with clients navigating emotional distress, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, trauma, neurodivergence, and life transitions.I fostered children for over 10 years and have experience working with children in the foster care system from 4-18yrs old. Working with young people has helped me understand the impact a person experiences when they feel psychologically safe and afforded the space to explore what they need in order to help feel better. I believe these experiences are transferrable to both people who have experienced the care system, as well as those who have had a particularly challenging upbringing or life experience.
Frequently Asked Questions
What can I expect during our counselling sessions?
During our counselling sessions, you will have the opportunity to explore your past, present and or any fears you have about your future. I use a client-led approach to counselling, meaning that I see you as an expert of your life, story and emotions.
Can I talk about more than one issue?
In short, yes. Our sessions are your time to explore what you need to work through, at a pace that is right for you. Often sessions start with a presenting problem, which later unfolds and leads to an earlier life experience, which is affecting how you process what’s happening in the present.
What happens during our first session?
I offer a free 20-minute telephone consultation to help you explore any questions that you may have about counselling and how we can work together. When we have our first counselling session, we will begin our session where you’d like to start. Some people choose to start by checking in with where they are in the here and now, some may want to begin at the beginning and work through their presenting issues systematically. It may be that you don’t know where to start. That’s also alright. We will begin where you feel comfortable and work together to work through what you’re going through right now.
What type of people do you work with?
I work with a range of people, including: adults, older adults, organisations, trainees and Young people.
How do you deliver your therapy?
I offer a range of therapy options, which we can explore during our initial telephone consultation. This includes: online therapy, telephone therapy, long term sessions, long-term face-to-face work, short term sessions, short-term face-to-face work, single session therapy (SST), time-limited.
